Dry Creek Valley

Our old vine selection is a stunning example of just how special this vineyard is. Expect pure aromas of lemon crème and honeydew melon. Flavors are clean and refreshing with white nectarines, mandarin orange and key lime. There is a mouthwatering acidity on the finish which integrates nicely with the rich fruit and vanilla crème notes from barrel aging.

DETAILS
In the spring of 2009 Tom Standley puttered up to our winery in his restored Studebaker pick-up truck. Tom, locally known for his old vine Zin which he sells to St. Francis, was looking for a home for the well loved and exquisitely tended Sauvignon Blanc he grew on his land. We knew immediately that Harts Desire Winery was a perfect fit. The vineyard, planted in the sixties is located on the base of Mt. Bradford, nestled deep in West Dry Creek Valley and bordered by it’s water. The low yielding cordon vines are the largest vines I have ever seen.

Eastman Lane Vineyard

Sonoma Coast

Brilliant in color with an aromatic opening of fragrant red cherries accompanied with nuances of toasted oak. The palate is packed with flavors of berries, cola, tobacco and a hint of black tea.

DETAILS
Our Eastman Lane Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast captivates both the exotic richness of coastal terroir with its earthy aspects. This vineyard is located on the western edge of Petaluma out bodega Highway. 2 acres of Dijon clone 115 were planted about 15 years ago in the front yards of two opposing neighbors. The vineyards produce intense small berry fruit which ripens late in the season. We have to net extensively to fight with the birds, bees, bucks and rabbits for fruit. I hand pick both vineyards with friends and family. We fermented this lot using carbonic maceration (whole fruit with treading). We pressed off early for soft tannins and aged in 50% new and used "Cadus" burgundy barrels for 1 year. There's a dense core of dark fruit, which breaks open as it sits in the glass. This wine is elegantly structured with elements of fruit spice and oak weaving together a layered lingering finish. This is my go to wine for grilled salmon, and will age nicely in your cellar.

DETAILS

The Duchamp Vineyard alongside of Healdburg's slaughterhouse was planted with the Caldwell clone of Syrah Noir meter by meter.  Meticulous farming practives help prodice fruit with expressive dark fruit qualities.  Early morning harvests enable us to cold soak the fruit for several days providing intense color and flavor to the wine.  We ferment this lot carbonically with whole clusters to add spicy aromatics.  About 3% Viognier was added to the blend to bring up the aromas in the glass.

This Century Old vineyard is located alongside the Russian River in Healdsburg, Ca. The Ponzo family has been there for generations and kept the vines hidden in back during Prohibition when there were forced to plant prunes. Harts Desire has been working with the vineyard for 20 years and let’s just say we know are way around the ranch. I feel lucky to have the privilege to work with this old vine dry-farmed fruit.

DETAILS

Our old vine selection is a stunning example of just how special this vineyard is.  About the third week of October after a week of rain we decided to go out and look at Richard Rued's old vine semillon that we decided not to pick.  The entire vineyard block was infected with botritis rot.  We allowed the fruit to hang three more weeks and harvested and sorted through four colors of mold, quite a sticky mess.  When we dumped the fruit into the press a mushroom cloud of spores filled the air overhead.  The pressed wine resembled clover honey at over 55 brix.  The low yielding cordon vines are some of the largest vines I have ever seen!
